We are blessed to have a fabulous Sunday School teacher, David Drinnon. I must first apologize to him as I sent Jamison laughing at the beginning of the lesson. Teachers must hate disruptions like that, so David, my apologies, but I had a funny on my mind that just came out (and very rarely do I have a witty comment).
So, we were in Isaiah 7 talking about trusting God and the things that we place our trust in instead (our man-made substitutes). He used the illustration of cooking and things we substitute in and how they are never as good as the real thing.
Examples:
sweet and low is never as good as sugar
no fat cheese is not as good as real cheese
As I am taking a sip of my diet coke, J whispers, "diet coke is not as good as real coke," to which I replied, "Low-fat Jen is better than big fat Jen." I got a huge giggle and agreement on that statement.
On a very serious note, this lesson hit home as all too often I look for my solutions first rather than the Lord's. Thanks for the swift kick in the pants!
There is none 'Equal,' none other so 'Splenda'd as my lovely wife!
