Let's Go Fly a Kite

I love when mom's talk about getting "mom of the day" award for losing it, for not doing something right, etc. I feel like I am there all the time. So, I am "mom of the decade" because *gasp* I can count on one hand the number of times in 4 years that I have taken my kids to the library. In fact, I think it would be 1 time for every 4 years of Grayson's life. The other day Grayson ASKED to go to the library so he could check out books on volcanoes. That thrilled me for several reasons: 1. preschool is paying off - so glad he is learning something (about libraries and volcanoes b/c I haven't taught him about either; under my watch we learn important things like how to bake chocolate chip cookies) and 2. he wants to read. Yippee!

The library is literally around the corner from my house, further giving me mom of the decade status. I could probably wheel them over there in the stroller if I was feeling brave. So, I looked up preschool story time so they could be read to and off we went.

They had a blast! We checked out 5 books on volcanoes, read one on princesses and got Jack and the Beanstalk (all of which are still in the front seat of my car. The best laid plans to read to my kids.) Then we went in for story time and they learned about the wind! very cool, especially since Grayson had been asking me questions about where the wind came from and was not satisfied with my answer of "only God knows that." I really did thank the Lord that someone else could field the never ending questions on wind for an hour. I love when the Lord's sovereignty shows up even in the little bitty things in my life! We sang songs, read books and made kites out of paper and yarn. Guess what, the kites actually flew. It kept the kids entertained for 30 minutes after we came home as well. Then the wind stopped blowing and Grayson got mad b/c I couldn't make the wind blow again. We had to go back down the Lord is in control stream again. He didn't get it; he still thinks mom can make the wind blow! I am glad he thinks I am supermom!

I am adding this to my things to do with the kids.  It as a beautiful day and we all learned something!

  1. We used to love that library! And the main reason we went was just to GET OUT of the house. So going to the library was really selfish on my part! Anyway, if you have a chance to do any baby activities with Ms. Judy there, give it a try. She is very sweet, and still remembered my kids' names 5+ years later.

  2. Awesome! We try to go to the Cinco Ranch branch of the Ft Bend library system, on Cinco Ranch by La Centerra. Where is the one you went to? Maybe we can meet there some over the summer!
