Minor Victory

Grayson has NO interest in potty training; none; nada; zilch. No big deal in my world beceause he's still not two. OK, OK, so he's a week shy of 2, but that still does not make him 2 YET. I have not been pressuring him at all but have been talking to him about it, letting him sit on it, bribing him with M&Ms, the usual mom tricks. His favorite part? FLUSHING. We are trying to train him that you only flush it when you have used it. That's almost a pointless exercise as anytime he disappears, it is almost guaranteed that you will find him by one of the potties flushing away. All that to say, he refuses to actually "go" on the potty, even though the reward of flushing comes at the end. 100% of the time, he'll sit there for about a minute, say all done, only to hop off and go in his diaper. Frustrating.

Tonight, dad gets a gold star as he got Grayson on the potty in the nick of time to have our first potty training victory. There was a celebration in our house. We had M&M's, we called the grandparents, we did high fives, we celebrated some more....

When you are sleep deprived, minor victories are BIG victories. Now, if I can convince him to do this more often.

  1. Wow, that is impressive! Good luck with it. Neither of my kids showed any interest until 2 1/2, so don't get discouraged. =) tanya

  4. Yay for Grayson! Anything you can do to encourage them that "yes, the potty is your friend!" is a good thing. Having trained both male and female, I can report that my girls started the process at two, and I didn't even attempt until my guy was on the down side of 2 1/2 and heading to 3! The waiting paid big dividends. I agree with the poster who said, "I deplore potty learning!!!"
