Week 3 --- went about as well as the election did this week if you are in the McCain camp! I would love to say that I stayed far, far away from the Halloween candy but it jumped up, bit me in the rear and permanently attached itself there. Plus every morning my precious child says, "Pick 1 piece Mommy" and we each get to pick a piece out of his pumpkin. The Mexican food on Sunday attached to the waist and then I got mom of the year award for baking cut out sugar cookies with my 2 year old and one of his friends. I love the way they baks. A bite for Grayson, a bite for Luke, a bite for Mommy. Who can resist a cute 2 year old sharing his cookie dough? After all, I have been working on him sharing! At that point, I gave up even keeping track on how bad I blew it foodwise this week. I made the mistake of getting in the mindset of "Oh well, I've already blown it, might as well finish it off." Kind of goes with my sports philosophy - if you are going to get a foul, make it count.
On a very positive note, I have had a stellar week running. Sat I ran with my good friend Dana and we knocked out 7+ miles. On Monday I had what I am calling my postpartum break through run as it was the first fast, I feel awesome run. I ran 4 miles in 36:30 - just over a 9 minute mile. I thought, no way could I ever do that again as that is the fastest pace I have ever run. On Wed I ran the same route in 35:34 - just under a 9 minute mile. Yippee!!!! One more day to run this week, but Jamison and I are headed to Austin for the Texas game so I am not sure when it will happen.
Many of you have commented on my running so I feel inclined to give you my top 10 reasons to why I run:
10. A friend of mine 4 years ago encouraged me to run a half marathon. He believed in me and I trained in 8 weeks and ran it in 2 hours, 2 min. It can be done - I had never run over 3 miles prior to this.
9. Some friends of mine didn't think I could do it! I am competitive so proving them wrong became the name of the game.
8. Runner's high - it's awesome once you clear 4 miles and get in the grove.
7. Running is ADDICTIVE
6. Running is a stress reliever
5. Running is the only time I get some UNINTERRUPTED, QUIET time to myself - unless I am doing my long run in which I welcome my chats with Dana. We can solve the world's problems on these runs! Then I get GOOD QUALITY girl time. Either way it is a win win situation!
4. Running gives me time to think
3. Running gives me time to pray
2. Running is the only effective thing I have found to take the weight off
and the #1 Reason....
1. After a nice LONG run, there is no guilt about the Sonic tator tots and diet coke.
Yes, eating is the #1 reason in my world to run!
Here's to a better next week.
I am still so impressed with the running. I know it is great for taking off weight, I jsut HATE it! I really wish I liked it, but that is for another day! I used Halloween candy to drown out my election frustrations as well, I am right with you on that! But I would say you DEFINITELY balanced it out with running a million miles! You go Girl! Hope this week goes better for you, and don't worry about one rough week, we all have 'em and we aren't here to judge, just encourage! Have a great week and if you feel like it, run a mile or two for me! :)
ReplyDeleteI think if you are running 9 minute miles, you get to eat a little candy. That's my philosophy. Way to go Jen!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on all the reasons for running....especially the time to pray and then EAT!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I would've eaten the cookie dough, too.:)
I think that's a fair trade! I wish I could say my exercise evened out my eating :P Great job, and good luck next week!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed you can talk and run at the same time...in my dreams! When you started did your body hate you? Because thats about how I feel everytime I run! But, you are motivating...keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Missy....if you are running that much, you should be able to eat whatever you want...within reason! Great job...keep up the running, I wish I could join you...oh wait...I don't think I could even make it down my street!
ReplyDeleteBTW - sharing with a two year old...that's priceless!
I am right there with you, on all these reasons. I love the energy I get when I run. It stays with me all day. I feel strong and healthy. And hungry. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sending me the half marathon training schedule & for encouraging me! It's a little intimidating I must admit. I did 4 miles today at a pace WAY higher than 9 minute miles.
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else who said it - if you can run that far that fast you DESERVE a little cookie dough!
